Family Sourcebooks
Renewing CATHOLIC CULTURE
Building
the
DOMESTIC CHURCH
The Family Sourcebooks for Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas were published by Women for Faith & Family. They are in the process of being revised.
Pope John Paul II has repeatedly referred to the Catholic family as the "Domestic Church", for it is within the family that we form our first ideas about life and love, and about God and His Church.
Catechism of the Catholic Church:
In order to help provide families with handy resources for the two major seasons of the liturgical year, Advent and Christmas, Lent and Easter, Women for Faith and Family produced two easy-to-use spiral-bound booklets. They contain:
1666 The Christian home is the place where children receive the first proclamation of the faith. For this reason the family home is rightly called "the domestic church," a community of grace and prayer, a school of human virtues and of Christian charity.
- a Church calendar of feasts and observances,
- descriptions of the meaning of liturgical seasons of the Church year,
- the meaning and history of Christian symbols associated with holidays,
- traditional prayers and devotions,
- "hands-on" activities especially for families with young children.
- Our Family Sourcebooks, compiled from many sources and written by mothers and teachers make excellent presents for any young Catholic family, and are good resources for homeschoolers.
This web site supplements these two books with a liturgical calendar for the entire Church year. Especially for the most popularly celebrated feasts (such as St. Valentine's Day, and Hallowe'en) you will find on these pages useful suggestions for how to celebrate these truly Catholic holidays with your family. You will also find on this site the most popular prayers and devotions. (Permission is granted to print these resources for use by your family or school-children. For any other use, please request permission.)
NOTE: Go to Seasons of the Liturgical Year, Advent - Christmas - Lent - Easter - Ordinary Time, for links to pages for feasts and holidays within each season.
Check seasonal prayers and Saint's Days in Prayers & Devotions section on this site!
