Pope's Intentions

Universal: Care for the suffering
That, rejecting the culture of indifference, we may care for our neighbors who suffer, especially the sick and the poor.

Evangelization: Openness to mission
That Mary’s intercession may help Christians in secularized cultures be ready to proclaim Jesus.

****When the Ascension of the Lord is celebrated on the following Sunday, the second reading and Gospel from the 7th Sunday of Easter may be read on the 6th Sunday of Easter.

Regarding the Ascension of the Lord, the ecclesiastical provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and Omaha have retained its celebration on the proper Thursday, while all other provinces have transferred this solemnity to the 7th Sunday of Easter, May 17. If transferred, Thursday, May 14, is observed as an Easter Weekday. The following readings are used: Acts 1: 15-17, 20-26/Jn 15:9-17.

In those places where the observance of the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord has been transferred to this day, the Mass and readings of the Ascension are used: Acts 1:1-11/Eph 1:17-23 or Eph 4:1-13/Mark 16:15-20
